A Japanese manufacturer built on die-casting precision — and the maker of the door closers we supply across Singapore.
Corporate Profile
Ryobi began as Ryobi Manufacture, a small casting workshop in the town of Fuchu, Hiroshima. Its speciality was die casting — forcing molten metal into a mould cavity under high pressure to produce parts that come out complex, durable and considerably lighter than traditional sand-cast components.
That single technical discipline became the company's DNA. Everything Ryobi has built since traces back to it: the ability to form intricate metal parts to tight, repeatable tolerances at industrial volume.
Today Ryobi Limited operates across three divisions — die casting, builders' hardware, and printing equipment — each drawing on the same foundation of precision metal engineering.
From engine components measured in metres to door hardware measured in centimetres — the same casting expertise, applied at very different scales.
Structural and powertrain components for the global automotive industry. In March 2025 Ryobi introduced GIGA CASTING — a super-large die-casting machine with 6,500 tonnes of clamping force, used to form large single-piece vehicle underbody structures.
Door closers, floor hinges, door operators and architectural ironmongery. This is the division UTD Asia represents in Singapore — covered in detail further down this page.
Offset presses built in Hiroshima under RYOBI MHI Graphic Technology, including the RMGT 9 A1-plus format series with Smart Assist Printing for near-unattended job changeovers.
Anticipating Japan's post-war urban boom, and already experienced in precision products — twin-lens reflex camera bodies, electric counter meter parts — Ryobi turned its casting expertise toward the door.
The result, in 1963, was the 70 Series: the first die-cast door closer made in Japan. Casting the body rather than sand-forming it made the unit lighter, easier to install, and far more consistent from one piece to the next.
Six decades later that lineage runs unbroken through every closer in the range.
The commercial and project range, from the first Japanese die-cast closer to today's hybrid and automatic models.
The first die-cast door closer produced in Japan.
Second-generation commercial closer.
Expansion of the project-grade lineup.
Refined hydraulic control for commercial doors.
Ultra heavy-duty closer for the most demanding openings.
The flagship high-end closer line launches.
Rack-and-pinion and cam mechanisms combined in one body.
Powered opening and closing, extending the range into accessibility.
A parallel DIY and residential line runs alongside it — including the 60 Series (1966), the Doorman interior closer (1983), retrofit-specialised models (1998) and extrusion-type closers (2019).
Two closing mechanisms have always involved a trade-off. GEOPRO is the world's first and only door closer to run both, in a double-cylinder body.
Delivers stable, predictable function and movement through the door's travel — the dependable half of the pairing.
Provides a noticeably stronger latching action at the end of the cycle, pulling the door firmly to a close.
The Twin Cam slim variant answers a problem specifiers know well: a large, heavy door that is hard to push open but still needs to close properly every time. It opens lightly, closes correctly, and handles leaves of up to 180 kg — in a body slim enough not to dominate the door head.
Where the opening is extreme, the H8 Series takes over — rated for door leaves up to 350 kg.
Its anti-corrosion treatment has passed 264 hours of salt spray testing, which is why it is specified for tunnel and marine-related projects where humidity and salt would degrade an ordinary closer.
Built for the heaviest fire and security doors.
Verified corrosion resistance for coastal and tunnel environments.
Ryobi's builders' hardware spans the complete opening — the closing mechanism, the hardware that carries the door, and the systems that control entry.
The high-end hybrid closer range for project and commercial specification.
Residential and interior door closers, including retrofit models.
Shaft closers for lighter doors where no closer body is wanted.
Floor hinges, pivot hinges and butt hinges for glass and heavy timber doors.
Manual sliding door closers and automatic sliding door operators.
Locksets, panic hardware and door ironmongery completing the opening.
When you specify a Ryobi closer, you are drawing on one of the largest door closer manufacturing operations in the world.
Door closer production runs across Japan (Hiroshima), China (Dalian) and Taiwan (Taichung), supported by an integrated system spanning mould design, casting, precision machining and finishing.
